Decompression Therapy

Decompression Therapy is a traction based , non-surgical procedure that effectively treats disabling low back, neck and radiating leg & arm pain. Decompression Therapy relieves pain associated with bulging discs, disc herniation, degenerative discs, posterior facet syndromes and many failed back surgeries. This is accomplished by reducing the pressure on spinal discs and facet joints through unloading created by distraction and positioning.

This treatment helps patients avoid the risk of anesthesia, surgical complications and the potential of failed back surgery.

Decompression Therapy is administered to patients fully clothed, either face down or face up, on a specially designed table. Treatment begins with a series of sessions, typically 2-3 times per week. Each session is approximately 10-15 minutes in length.

Clinical findings suggest Decompression Therapy will create a relatively quick initial response. Patients who will do well tend to feel a sense of relief within six sessions. This can be direct pain cessation, a centralization of pain or reducing to an ache or stiffness. Full relief, if attainable through this passive treatment, will usually be in 12-15 sessions. Occasionally a "stubborn" pain syndrome may continue to improve slowly over 15+ sessions.

Our experience suggests Decompression Therapy is also an excellent supportive or maintenance treatment for those cases when pain relief is marke but prone to exacerbation.

Decompression therapy is an approved procedure that is covered by most insurance companies and is compensated under Act 57 (PA Workers Compensation) and Act 6 (PA Personal Injury).
