Unequal Leg Length

Approximately 10%-15% of the population will have one leg simply having grown ¼” to ½” longer than the other. The greatest problem that leg length inequality causes is that of back pain. Studies have shown this to be as much as 2 to 5 times the normal rate. The second most common problem in those with imbalance is pain in the hip or knee on the side of the longer leg. Anyone with back, hip or knee pain should be evaluated for leg length inequality. Correction of leg length inequality is a two part process. Chiropractic treatment for the correction of misalignment and tightness of the joints of the pelvis and lower back, which so commonly occur with different leg lengths, along with a lift placed in the shoe on the short leg side. These procedures are often enough to correct even the most chronic back and hip pain.
